WANDO GIRLS VOLLEYBALL EARNS 2026 AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — July 23, 2026

The Wando High School Girls Volleyball program has been named a recipient of the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, a national honor recognizing volleyball programs that combine success on the court with excellence in the classroom. The Warriors join a field of 1,432 collegiate and high school teams across the country selected for the award this year.

To qualify, a program must maintain a team grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale for the full academic year. The distinction places Wando volleyball among an elite group of programs nationwide that prioritize academic achievement alongside athletic performance.

The achievement reflects the culture built by Head Coach Alexis Glover and her staff, who have emphasized academic discipline as a core value of the program alongside competitive success. “This recognition is a credit to our student-athletes, who work just as hard in the classroom as they do in the gym,” said Glover. “We’re incredibly proud of this group.”

AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon praised the volleyball community's continued commitment to academics, noting that the sport has produced more than 1,400 Team Academic Award recipients for another consecutive season, a reflection of the dedication coaches and student-athletes bring to both the classroom and the court.
