Wando Football earned a memorable road victory Friday night, defeating Fort Dorchester 31-24 and ending a 14-year drought against the Patriots. The win marked Wando’s first victory over Fort Dorchester since 2012 and improved the Warriors to 3-1 on the season.
Fort Dorchester struck first and led 7-0 after the opening quarter, but Wando answered with 17 points in the second quarter to take a 17-14 halftime lead. The Warriors continued to battle in the second half, adding touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters before finishing off the 31-24 victory.
The win was especially meaningful given the history of the series. Fort Dorchester had controlled the matchup for more than a decade, making Friday night’s victory a significant moment for the Wando Football program.
After falling to rival Lucy Beckham the previous week, the Warriors responded with a statement road win and moved to 3-1 with victories over West Ashley, May River and Fort Dorchester.
For the first time since 2012, Wando Football can put a win over Fort Dorchester in the record book.
