The Wando girls varsity tennis team ended its regular season with a dominating 6-0 victory over Bishop England at home on Thursday, extending its winning streak to 16 heading into the playoffs.

The Warriors (16-2) are expected to be the #1 Lower State seed when the Class AAAAA bracket is released this weekend. Bishop England (5-6), ranked #8 by MaxPreps in Class AAA coming into the match, is vying for a top 4 Lower State seeding in the Class AAA playoffs.

Both teams entered Thursday’s meeting at less than full strength. Wando was without its regular #2 starter while Bishop England was missing its regular #3. Had the players been there, the outcome probably would have been the same.

Wando won every match in straight sets and gave up just 17 total games out of the 89 games played. The whole match took about 90 minutes.

Singles winners were Ellie Frank, Kinsley Matthews, Caroline Greene, Mary Alice Collins and Lilly Biggs. Tucker Adams and Mae Keegan won at doubles.

Wando is expected to get a first-round bye in the playoffs, which means its next match likely won’t be until Oct. 27th.
