WANDO GIRLS VOLLEYBALL HEADING TO STATE!

The Wando Girls Volleyball team is headed back to the state championship. After sweeping Gray Collegiate 3-0 in the Lower State Final on Tuesday night, the Warriors will play Woodmont for the 5A State Championship this Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 PM at Dreher High School in Columbia.

The Warriors’ record this season is one of the best in program history. Wando comes into Saturday at 37-6 with 16 straight wins, and the team has not dropped a single set in the playoffs.

This group set the tone early. Wando won 17 of its first 18 matches, beating strong programs including Lexington, North Myrtle Beach, Bishop England, Hilton Head Island and River Bluff. The Warriors also hosted the Wando Invitational Tournament in October, bringing some of the best teams in the Southeast to Mount Pleasant. Wando went on to win the 5A Region 6 championship and earned the No. 2 seed in the Lower State bracket, which came with a first-round bye.

The success hasn’t been limited to the court. Under Head Coach Alexis Glover, the team earned the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award, which recognizes the program for excellence in the classroom. That says a lot about the student-athletes in this program and the culture Coach Glover and her staff have built.

In the playoffs, the Warriors have gone nine sets without a loss. They beat Carolina Forest 3-0 in the second round and Summerville 3-0 in the third round. Then they went on the road and took down top-seeded Gray Collegiate 3-0 in the Lower State Final, 25-16, 25-23, 27-25. After taking the first set comfortably, the Warriors had to grind out the next two, closing it out 27-25 to punch their ticket to Columbia.

Wando volleyball has a long history of playing on the final weekend of the season. The program has won seven state championships, most recently in 2020, and this year’s team now has the chance to bring home title number eight.

Standing in the way is a Woodmont team that will be a tough test. The Wildcats come in at 41-2 with 13 straight wins and are playing in the state championship for the second year in a row. Woodmont swept River Bluff 3-0 in the Upper State Final on Tuesday. With both teams on long winning streaks and coming off sweeps, it should be a great match.

We want a big Wando crowd in Columbia on Saturday night. Students, families, alumni and the Wando community, make the trip and show these young women how proud we are of them. Wear your Wando colors and come ready to be loud.
